A RUBBER BAND THAT WILL NEVER BREAK...,,STRONGEST RUBBER BAND EVER & HOW RUBBERS ARE MADE

From many years’ rubbers has become most useful thing in our day-to-day life. Weather to hold hairs, erase pencil marks, organising pages, or wrap on something for grip rubber is everywhere.

For rubbers high stability it has gained its high popularity in daily life. But remember nothing is perfect. Rubbers has the worst demerit of losing stretchbility & strength after some use or many times breaks too. You must have noticed sometimes if rubber won’t be used, then it will become gummy like structure by melting and sometimes it may sticks on surface.

So did you ever thought how the rubber have that awesome Stretch which allows it to extend up to twice of its length? Why does rubbers loose the elasticity??Why rubbers does breaks??How can we made a rubber that will never break??

WHY RUBBERS HAVE SUPER STRENGTH??

We all know rubbers are not manmade. They are collected form rubber trees (from some other trees also but in very less amount).This from of rubber is known as NATURAL RUBBER. This contains a special chemical i.e. ELASTOMERS which gives that super strength. Brazil is the country where rubber trees are found mostly. The collected natural rubbers are in liquid form, white in colour & mostly milky like substance when comes out of tree.

But those natural rubbers don’t have that super strength as compare to the rubbers we use today. The rubbers we use is combined with many oils and substances to improve properties. One of the most important substance is PLASTICIZERS which improves flexibility and stretching. The plasticizers bonding chain can slip one on another. Easily can stretch. Some spacer molecules prevent rigidity & bonding between chains.

These modified rubbers are for daily use not for automobile. In automobile, Vulcanised rubber is used. In vulcanised rubbers mainly contains sulphur & other substances are used to strengthen the rubber to improve its breakdown strength.

WHY DOES RUBBER BREAKS and DEFORMS?

This is the worst thing about a rubber that it breaks very often. And also you must have seen If rubber will not be use sometime it deforms mean it becomes a gummy like structure which sticks to hand and also on other surfaces. Ever thought why??

To create a rubber Elastomer & plasticisers are oxidised for some time. When a rubber is placed open to environment without use, the oxygen pressure destroys the rubber bonds. That’s why rubber deforms.

There are also some things which can affect a rubber i.e.
  • Leaving rubber in air without use it
  • UV light can affect a rubber
  • Sunlight also can affect a rubber.
  • Excess heat also can affect a rubber.

Some researchers found an unique material who can give rubber steel like strength .They are using GRAPHENE (A 3 dimensional carbon atom arranged in 2 dimensional hexagonal lattice). This is responsible for that high strength.

A company named alliance rubber tie up with university of Sussex to find more about graphene-rubber bonding And make it useful in real .This particular thing has endless application in various places. This thing can change the feature of rubber industry.
